Gulf Shores Museum

Come see how Gulf Shores has changed over the years. Lots to see inside. Spend an hour or so looking at exhibits on the effect of the hurricanes on Pleasure Island, local industries related to the Gulf and the history of our first families. Also read about two villages, now long gone, that used to be on Fort Morgan Road. We have a very interesting little free museum right here in Gulf Shores. One exhibit is fishing gear used over the years to fish and shrimp on the Gulf Coast and Little Lagoon. There is plenty of free parking next door.

Don't miss the lovely Butterfly Garden directly behind the museum. There is a nice gravel footpath and fun sliding benches from which to observe the many species of butterflies that visit our region.

There is a narrow footpath laid out in the shape of a butterfly outline that gives you the opportunity to view plants and butterflies up close.

There are fruits as well as flowers in the Gulf SHores Museum Butterfly Garden. You will be able to watch blueberries, figs and Satsuma oranges mature in the beds on the west side of the garden.

Lantana is a popular plant here. It is usually perennial and the butterflies love it. The drought tolerance of Lantana has been a blessing in recent years.	Butterflies love small tube shaped flowers such as this.

Park in the lot to the west of the museum (see above left behind well house) and walk over to the garden on the wooden foot bridge.

Check out the way-cool glider park benches. This is the perfect place to bring your sack lunch and enjoy a bit of nature and beauty in the middle of the day. If you are strolling for jogging in Gulf Shores, be sure to swing up behind the Museum.
