Jack Edwards Airport
Gulf Shores is fortunate to have a great small airport. At present we do not yet have commercial flights but that may change one day. The closest airport to fly into Gulf Shores is Pensacola, FL or Mobile, AL. We do have charter flights available at JKA.

History
Jack Edwards was originally a U.S. Navy property for an OLF (outlying field) for the Naval Air Station in Pensacola. In 1977 under the Surplus Property Act of 1944 the U.S. Navy sold the land to the Alabama Dept. of Aeronautics. It was then that the original terminal building was constructed and the airport was named for Congressman Jack Edwards who was instrumental in the transfer of the property from Federal to the State of Alabama. In 1983 the4 City of Gulf Shores purchased the property from the state. Additional acreage was purchased. The new terminal building was built in 1998. The airport now includes 850 acres. A runway extension was recently completed in 2003. In 1999 there were over 47,000 flights in and out of the airport. This figure is expected to reach 67,000 by 2010.
